Maternity discrimination is one of the most common complaints
received by the Fair Work Ombudsman prompting last week’s launch of a national campaign to avoid pregnancy discrimination at work. |
 |
Pregnancy discrimination can include situations where an employer:
- Fails to let an eligible employee take parental leave
- Declines to keep a job open
- Demotes an employee during pregnancy or on their return to work
- Refuses to afford a pregnant employee the same rights as their colleagues e.g. promotion, educational opportunities
The Fair Work Ombudsman campaign commencement coincided with the launch of its first pregnancy discrimination case in the Federal Court in Sydney.
If you feel you’ve been discriminated against during pregnancy report it or contact the Fair Work Ombudsman.
